Donna Z. Bliss, PhD, RN, FGSA, FAAN, WOCNF, is a Professor and School of Nursing
Foundation Professor of Nursing Research at the University of Minnesota School of Nursing,
Minneapolis, MN, US. She has 25 years of funded research and >125 publications and
presentations investigating the epidemiology, assessment, prevention, and management of fecal
incontinence, its associated skin problems, and ways to improve patients’ quality of life. Her
current program of research focuses on innovative technologies to improve nursing practice and
education. She recently chaired an international committee of the ICS-ICI that conducted and
published a systematic review of the conservative management of fecal incontinence and is
editing a second edition of a book about managing fecal incontinence for advanced practice
nurses. She is a past chair of the ICS Nursing Committee, and was an editor of the Incontinence
group of Cochrane Reviews, and is on the editorial boards of Continence and Applied Nursing
Research.
